ARSENIC & OLD LACE, Kesselring's most successful stage play, is a farcical black comedy revolving around Mortimer Brewster, a marriage-hating drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and local police in Brooklyn, NY, as he debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry the woman he loves, Elaine Harper. A fun night of murder and mahem, with "just a pinch" of cyanide, is guaranteed for all! The two Brewster sisters were played by those grandes dames of GCLT, Marion Parry and Val Cooney. Noel Thompson (Our Country's Good; Jury Room) was the bewildered hero and theatre critic Mortimer Brewster, while newcomer Ash Pollard was his feisty fiancée Elaine Harper. Marc James (Our Country's Good; Show Boat) played the sinister homicidal maniac Jonathan Brewster and Jack Henry (Equus) was his unwilling accomplice and alcoholic plastic surgeon Dr Einstein. Terry Callaghan and Bob Mussett wore multiple hats and coats as the Reverend Harper, Mr Gibbs, Lieutenant Rooney and Mr Witherspoon, while Graham Simpson played Officer Brophy, Bob Allen played officer Klein, Jason Cuerel played O'Hara and Teddy Brewster was played by Doug Harvey. |
